Given the timey-wimey nature of the recent adventure World Enough and Time, I was inspired to create a collection of covers reflecting the evolution of Doctor Who novels over the years...

New Vintage Releases from TV's Dr. Who!

A couple of paperback covers featuring Armada books style branding. 

Power of the Daleks is being released on download and DVD shortly. 

And Class is the new spin-off from Doctor Who that begins on BBC3online and BBC1 in a few weeks time.

I had a bit of spare time last week in between jobs so I created full cover versions of my earlier Armada book covers.

Oh no, not more Armada Doctor Who book covers...!

I've been sorting out the files on my mac of late. It needed to be done. Lots of mis-named folders and lost designs have now been recovered and re-filed. 

Whilst doing this, I started to fix some of my older work to ensure I had the best possible copies. I've gone back and redone a few as well - making some of the Target cover designs into full cover proofs with fronts AND backs. I'll post them at a later date though followerers of my Twitter feed will have seen them as my regularly nightly #DoctorWho Book at Bedtime. 

I've also taken a few of the stories and asked the question... "What if the Armada paperback release of 'Dr Who in an Exciting Adventure with the Daleks' by David Whitaker had had the same success of the Target reprint in 1973?  

Would David Whitaker have found himself in the same position as Terrance Dicks and headed off on a new career as principal writer of the 'new' novelisation range from Armada Books? 

I've done some covers anyhow using the original artwork from the retro Target books I did last year. I make no apology for not giving the novels any titles. After all, the original is just called 'Dr Who' - the rest of its given title (the 'in an exciting adventure...' bit) is, to be perfectly honestly just a bit of cover blurb.

The Doctor Who Actor Book of Pre-Chosen Short Stories!

A handful of books came our way in the 70s and 80s purporting to be the literary selections of both Jon Pertwee and Peter Davison. Their connection to Doctor Who was tenuous to say the least and seemed to be limited to the name of the actor on the cover and spine of the book. Peter Davison did get his face on the front but they ended up using a still that made him look like a school-kid peeping through one of those 'photo-op' boards you used to find on the pier at Brighton. 

There's been a suggestion that putting the faces of the current Doctor Who cast on the covers of these sort of anthologies might encourage children to read more. But since they ARE reading actual Doctor Who novels by the dozen not too mention the likes of Harry Potter, it all seemed rather redundant and was dropped.

Back in the sixties, Armada Books published a paperback edition of 'DrWho in an Exciting Adventure with the Daleks'. 

They toyed with the idea of producing some more. 

Honest. 

They did. 

But in the end, they didn't.
