Nigel Kneale and the Chocolate Factory

It isn't well-known that the Quatermass author Nigel Kneale owned a huge chocolate factory on the Isle of Man. From there he created magical confectioneries that astounded the children and disturbed the parents of that fair isle for decades whilst he became more famous as a screenwriter elsewhere.

Since his passing, the factory has fallen into disrepair.

Older inhabitants of the Isle of Man speak of spirits and evil connected to the site.

It's rumoured that the tiny three-legged Martians - who made up the illegal immigrant workforce - turned feral.

Local government inspectors dare not enter the premises. The last one went mad and attacked a hot dog stand on the beach front at Douglas.

But what we do know, is that Mr. Kneale made exceedingly good sweets...

What Brand of Cigarette Did Lady Penelope Smoke?

There's a lot that is different in the new ITV 'Thunderbirds Are Go' series when compared to its sixties predecessor.

For one thing, none of the characters chain smoke like they used to...

Great Unreleased Doctor Who Merchandise of the 20th Century - part 256

The Whomobile Action Pursuit Set - Palitoy - c1974

How cool would this have been?

Okay. It might be adapted from an old James Bond Thunderball Action Pursuit Set but at least it came with accurate plastic Whomobile, Bessie and police car models. (One-man hovercraft sold separately)

Sadly all the effort that the toy designers put into this little piece of toy heaven came to nothing. Jon Pertwee was so furious that his image was being used without his knowledge, that he walked out of the Doctor Who television series and was never heard of again.

No prototypes of this toy are known to exist. Ever.

The William Hartnell Collector's Baby Doll...

I could say that "there are some corners of the universe that contain the most....etc..." but I won't.

If any Doctor Who has the desire to own one of those terrible faux collector's "babies" that are widely advertised in the pages of Sunday magazines, then this surely isn't one of them.

Once seen, never forgotten....

From previous postings, here's a selection of similar "collector's items" for you to cut-out-and-keep...

Even More Complete Doctor Who Target Book Covers...

Although I've created covers for every new Doctor Who adventure - from Rose to Last Christmas - I've only done the fronts so far.

A month or so back, I picked out a few and produced the back covers as well. You can see them here.

I've now got four more to add to the collection which may or not amuse you.

New to Collect! - The "Crossroads - Battles in Kings Oak" Collectable Card Game!

I bought my first packet of Crossroads Battles in King Oak cards yesterday. Five to a pack with a selection of rare, medium rare, super rare, ultra rare and non-existent ones thrown into the mix.

It looks fun - though without any instructions, it's hard to see it lasting beyond the end of the week.

The Official Crossroads Ice Lolly!

It seems that the Sapphire and Steel ice lolly was quite popular. Not surprising given the weather!

Here's another one I posted on Twitter.

The Nolly Lolly is now available in all good London eating establishments.
