Doctor Who and the Brexit of Peladon

Who says I'm stuck in the past and can't do anything topical???

There's apparently going to be a referendum in a couple months. The citizens of UK Britain are being asked whether they want to remain in Europe.

Not one to shirk from topical political issues, TV's Doctor Who has joined in with its traditional allegorical take on the situation using the primitive planet Peladon - just like it did with the miners' strike and the original entry into the common market back in the 70s.

It's a bit more obvious this time as the youth of today don't understand subtlety any more...

Victoria Wood - Two soups!

I did a couple of little tributes to the genius Victoria Wood who died after a short battle with cancer earlier this week at only 62.

They've already been posted on Twitter but I've posted them here just because...

Doctor Who and the Return of the Target Book Covers! part two

Here's a few more full covers with blurb. There might be more to come. I haven't decided yet...

New Doctor Who Assistant Announced During Live Football Match...

It's not the first time a Doctor Who companion has been revealed during live coverage of a football match on BBCtv.

(This is a fake.)

Doctor Who and the Dark Shadows...

For some reason, the novels based on the US daytime gothic soap Dark Shadows were available in the UK. At least that was the impression I got. They seemed to be a staple in local remaindered bookshops and second hand book stalls during my teens. This was strange. Strange because the series wasn't shown in the UK - at least not until the digital age when the SciFi channel bought and broadcast it for a short time.

I only say all that to put these three little efforts into some form of local context. I've no other reason to offer for what I did at a loose end the other Tuesday night anyway...

Someone in the UK might find them amusing...

Doctor Who and the Return of the Target Book Covers!

My alternate Target book covers still seem to be popular.

I thought it would be fun to go back to some of them and create full covers including the back blurb.

Well, it keeps me off the streets...

"Dr Who tai Gojira" (1968)

There's always been talk of a third sixties Dr Who movie. Be it Disney's early attempts to secure 'Marco Polo' as a film project or the madness of 'The Chase' being adapted into a 'Daleks Vs. Mechons' epic...

But a recent discovery of a promo poster in a disused public lavatory just outside Shepperton Studios suggests that popular 'Giant Rubber Dinosaur' studio Toho in Japan had plans for an epic co-production with Aaru (or Amicus depending on which account you read).

Intriguing isn't it?

Isn't it...??

The Short-Lived Doctor Who Fotonovel Series

Remember Fotonovels? Back in the late seventies, before the advent of domestic video tape recording, they were a popular way of reliving your favourite movie or TV show - especially if the latter was Star Trek

A company called Mandala Productions produced the majority of these little paperback visual treasures. The books used what we today would call 'screencaps' and comic-strip style speech bubbles to tell their tales as dynamic colourful photo stories.

Twelve episodes of the original Star Trek were given this treatment as well as the first two motion pictures - though the Wrath of Khan one was a very disappointing black and white version.

Sadly they were short-lived; no doubt replaced by then fledgling video tape market in the early eighties. They were also dominated by US material and the chances of any British TV show - let alone Doctor Who - getting the 'Fotonovel' treatment were minuscule to say the least.

Until now...

Oh and this one was probably highly unlikely as well...

The Collected Official Doctor Who Collectors's Items Collection

I'm very sorry.

I've not added to the blog over the past week or two. I've been very busy. Honest. (Timeslip stuff if you must ask... but that's another website altogether.)

In the meantime, I thought it would be okay (and a service to new followers) to collect together all of the 'Doctor Who Collectors Item' magazine ads I've done over the past year or two on one post.

I love these ads. The real ones, I mean. Be they for Elvis Presley handbags or Star Trek Cuckoo Clocks. Everyone knows they are TAT. That's TAT. In block capitals. Yet we (the royal 'we' of course) still buy them.

Here are all the ones I've done including a new one...

I hope you like them enough to send me your money. Now. (Easy payment plans available subject to status.)
