That Doctor Who Calendar 2019...

There's some images going round at the moment apparently taken from the officially licenced Doctor Who calendar. 

One shows a cover featuring the last four Doctors - Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant, Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi - but no Jodie Whittaker (despite her debuting last Christmas and being the incumbent Doctor for the duration of the said calendar's use). 

The other shows an image for January (possibly from a different calendar featuring ALL of the Doctors) showing an odd image of the first Doctor together with that peculiar hybrid Cyberman from a 1970 photoshoot for the Radio Times. 

I'm normally not a person to go off on one... but... 

...they are pretty shit. 

The Jodie Whittaker omission feels like a Justice League product that doesn't mention Wonder Woman. Whilst the inclusion of THAT Cyberman as part of a first Doctor design is just plain shoddy. 

I've done my best. I've knocked these up pretty quick with some available cut-outs I already had on the mac and using similar design elements as the actual calendars. They didn't take me too long and I've kept them simple. 

But, though I say so myself, they are 100% more in keeping with the series and the efforts to create a quality product that Doctor Who fans will want to buy as opposed to 'will' buy just to keep the collection complete.

Doctor Who DVD Covers in the style of Target Books...

A suggestion from the Twitter this one...A selection of Doctor Who DVD covers but done using the old Target book branding. 

I've used some of my own artwork for this as I wasn't too keen on re-using the original Target artwork. What's the point really? I have used the synopsises from the actual DVDs though so apologies for the typos and grammar. 

That Third 60s Doctor Who movie...

Way back in the mists of time, the Walt Disney Company expressed an interest... an interest mind... in making a motion picture based on John Lucarotti's 'Marco Polo' serial for the first season of Doctor Who. Needless to say, it didn't go much further than an enquiry.

In the end, the movie making was left to Milton Subotsky and Max Rosenberg - who bought the rights to Terry Nation's first two Dalek tales and made 'Doctor Who and the Daleks' and 'Daleks: Invasion Earth 2150AD'. There was some thought given to a third one based on 'The Chase' but the failure of the Daleks to light up the box office a second time meant it didn't get any further than the earlier Walt Disney effort.

The upshot of me writing all this is to set up this cinema poster someone on the Twitter ( @outonbluesix ) suggested I do a poster for the Marco Polo one. 

So I did... but re-worked it as a Subotsky/Rosenberg production instead of a Disney one.  Just so you know...

Here's something I was asked to do by a strange elderly woman who turned up at my house one day last week. 

She had an infectious laugh as well as a rather eye-catching skin condition. She said she would pay me in "untold riches" if I took on the commission but I settled for a few coppers to pay for a Greggs sausage roll and coffee. 

Not heard back from her but she seemed pleased with the results... She tweetered them to help sell some of her Blu-ray discs. Bless. 

Always nice to help out the elderly. We owe them so much.

John Shaft versus Jon Pertwee!

Apparently there's a little heard-of third Dr Who movie following the two 1960s Dalek movies. It had a limited release in 1972 before being lost forever. 

The only clue to it ever having existed is this poster. 

And the fact that the editor of TV Action comic saw it at a seedy Tunbridge Wells bijou. He recalled the name of the Doctor's home planet from the film the following week, when a reader wrote in to ask the name of the Master's home world. 

Thus a legend was born...

"Dr Who tai Gojira" (1968)

There's always been talk of a third sixties Dr Who movie. Be it Disney's early attempts to secure 'Marco Polo' as a film project or the madness of 'The Chase' being adapted into a 'Daleks Vs. Mechons' epic... 

But a recent discovery of a promo poster in a disused public lavatory just outside Shepperton Studios suggests that popular 'Giant Rubber Dinosaur' studio Toho in Japan had plans for an epic co-production with Aaru (or Amicus depending on which account you read). 

Intriguing isn't it?
