You Too Can Own Original Bits of Power of the Daleks!!!

Some of the late BBC designer Derek Dodd's original colour photos from Power of the Daleks recently went under the hammer at auction. The price estimate put the very rare (and largely unseen) stills way out of most fans price bracket and they had to make do with the artistically arranged lo-res photo of the collection on the auction house's website to get a basic feel of their awesome-ness. 

But fear not! There are plans to make the stills available to everyone (at a reasonable price). 

You TOO can own a genuine piece of Doctor Who history... just like the BIG fans do!

The Steven Moffat Memorial Clock

Look. I'm sorry I haven't posted anything since well before Christmas... but I've been busy. Busy with real life stuff and nonsense. Yes, I've still been tweeting bits and bobs but not actually updating the blog. 

Well, here I am and with a free few hours to bring things up to date.

First up is something to memorialise the life of  former Dr Who show-runner Steven Moffat. And, ironically for a writer who first coined the phrase 'timey-wimey', it's a clock.  

Don't worry he's not dead. The folk who make these things will produce tat like this at the drop of a hat. So I'v done that as well...

Bonekickers 10th Anniversary Plate

Next year marks the tenth anniversary of the classic BBCtv drama about archaeologists who were also detectives - Bonekickers.

Way back in the mists of the 1990s, Adam Richards, Owen Richards and myself produced a fanzine entitled FanGrok. It ran for six issues, contained many scurrilous but amusing articles and was banned in Birmingham. 

One of the less controversial fake ads in it was one for a Princess Diana Star Trek Doll. The idea was to produce a series of similar ads over the course of several issues. 

Well, it's 2016 and I've finally finished the gag...

In the past, I have made no secret of how disturbing I find those realistic baby dolls you see advertised in cheap TV mags and Sunday colour supplements. 

Imagine my surprise when this week's TV Choice carried an ad for yet another realistic 'baby' doll - but this time in the form of an orangutan. Yes, that's right - an orangutan. Disturbingly realistic looking (at least in the photos) and wearing human baby clothes... 

I had to do something about it... And fast!

This one is a cat ornament thing done up to look like Amanda Barrie in Carry on Cleo - but with none of the allure.

Presenting the new 'Baby Doll Patrick' doll

As regular viewers know, I am still fascinated by those full page adverts for "limited edition collectors items" that clutter the pages of Sunday newspaper colour supplements. 

About a fortnight ago, I was quite shocked to discover there is now a Doctor Who cuckoo clock on sale. This is a couple a months after I debuted my Official Sydney Newman Doctor Who Cuckoo Clock. Life imitates art. 

Another one of those products that I find genuinely quite disturbing is the life-like baby doll models. These are disturbingly realistic 'dolls' designed to look as cute as possible but in reality have the souless eyes of a shop window mannequin. 

I created one in the image of the first Dr Who William Hartnell about a year ago. It certainly created a bit of a brouhaha with twitter comments ranging from 'I want one!" to "You are now blocked, you sick bastard!" 

I produced a postcard of it for last year's Whooverville convention and I sold well into double figures of it... about fourteen. 

With my medication wearing down over this Spring bank holiday, I decided to create a companion doll for the first one. For this, I apologise.

The Collected Official Doctor Who Collectors's Items Collection

I'm very sorry.

I've not added to the blog over the past week or two. I've been very busy. Honest. (Timeslip stuff if you must ask... but that's another website altogether.)

In the meantime, I thought it would be okay (and a service to new followers) to collect together all of the 'Doctor Who Collectors Item' magazine ads I've done over the past year or two on one post. 

I love these ads. The real ones, I mean. Be they for Elvis Presley handbags or Star Trek Cuckoo Clocks. Everyone knows they are TAT. That's TAT. In block capitals. Yet we (the royal 'we' of course) still buy them.

Doctor Who Collectors Table Lamps - now available!

The current issue of the UK TV listings magazine "What's On TV" has an ad on page 36 for a Star Wars table lamp. 

The stem is made up of three light sabres and there's some delightfully old-fashioned artwork from the first film on the shade. You couldn't make it up...

So I did.

I do tend to avoid politics when I'm online. It's not that I'm not interested in politics. I tend to prefer direct action to endlessly debating things. I put it down to my impatience with ignorant opinion and it's the sort of people who have these sort of opinions that you end up arguing with to the point you're just going round in circles... a waste of time really. 

But occasionally I find something online in the world of politics that just tickles me.

Recently images of two Conservative party politicians started doing the rounds of social media and I had to add my own four pennies to the mix. 

All I can add is that... Yes - standing with your feet apart during a presentation denotes confidence but standing with your feet too far apart will also give the impression you're about to take a rather deliberate 'fecal' dump in the middle of the stage....

... or that you're posing for your own plastic action figure in the way that only SF action heroes pose! 

I post this with apologies and acknowledgement to the friends I have working so hard in the collectable figurine part work industry. Keep up the good work.
