Click for larger
With part one of Doctor Who's series nine safely on the bookshelf, here's the breath bending sequel in which the Doctor confronts his deepest shame, Davros opens his eyes to mercy, the shit hits the fan in more ways than one and we finally find out just who the Magician's Apprentice is...

Not.

You can see the equally mesmerising prequel here!

Doctor Who - The Familiar Magician's Apprentice Witches - now on VHS!

The BBC have decided to release a special VHS compilation of the Doctor Who series nine opening episodes - The Magician's Apprentice and The Witch's Familiar

This is a special hour long spoiler-free edit - as demanded by fans of the series in countries other than the UK. Hopefully this will prevent key plot elements being discussed and spoilered on the world wide interweb.

I was asked to produce the cover for this bold new piece of official merchandise and put my skills to heavily researching and sourcing images and information from the aforementioned cyberspace community.

I hope it captures the intense drama of the final product!

Happy viewering!

Target: Capaldi - part one

Yes, it's that time of the month where I post more Target book covers for the current series of Doctor Who

These are Peter Capaldi's first run as "Dr. Who" (his words!) and bring my little project up to date.

Sadly we are at that period where the bods at WHAllen are no longer able to use the likenesses of the current Doctor on the cover so have to make do with finding elements in the actual stories to sell their products.

I've no idea why there's an issue with using the Doctor's face. Some suggest that the actor was unhappy with his artistic likeness being used whilst others suggest that the licencing fee for his image became too expensive.

There are others that postulate the theory that the legal bods - having seen Peter Capaldi in 'The Thick of It' thought it was a real documentary and are too frightened to approach the actor for permission...

Whatever the reason, a mock up of the twelfth Doctor's debut novel featuring his face was commissioned and proofed but, in the tradition of Target books, will not be revealed until a late date... possibly in some magazine article or lavish book about the history of these novelisations.

Target: Matt Smith - part three

Nearly there.

Here's Matt Smith's final full series of Doctor Who episodes done up as Target books.

Not long now... then I can back to something more productive like earning a crust!

When BBCAudio runs out of Doctor Who Target novelisations...

Apparently, someone at the pub told me that BBC Audio is very worried now that it has resumed publishing readings of the old Target novelisations of Doctor Who

It seems (and don't tell anyone) that they are rapidly running out of ones they can legally release. They've just set up some plans to move onto WHAllen's other Doctor Who titles...

Keep it under your hat! They're a bit embarrassed by it all...

New: Build Your Own Dalek in Weekly Parts

I love part works - especially the very cheap first issues.

Thanks to their lovely price tag, I now own a rather nice little figurine of Matt Smith shouting at aliens from 'The Pandorica Opens', a Batmobile from the first Tim Burton film, a top heavy model of the USS Enterprise D and a Victorian pocket watch that doesn't tell the correct time.

I was lying in bed last night - as you do - and thought wouldn't publishing a part work be an ideal way for the Daleks to invade Earth. I was wide awake and my medication hadn't kicked in.

No, the idea is reasonably sound. The Daleks have a thing for invading the Earth in the 22nd century. They tried it twice and buggered it up both times thanks to the intervention of TV's favourite Time Lord - the Doctor!

This time, they publish a part work entitled 'Build Your Own Dalek' - which week-by-week builds not only in a complete library of all things Skaro but also allows the purchaser the
opportunity to build their own Dalek!

Obviously, it would take a very long time to supply all the necessary parts - especially the radio active organic bits and pieces.

But that's the clever bit. By the time all of the part work Daleks are finally constructed, it will be 2150AD (or whatever) and the Daleks would have a ready made army here on Earth without the need for all that flying saucer stuff - which frankly looked kind of rubbish anyway in the original 'Dalek Invasion of Earth'.

Just an idea anyway... I really should write stories for a living but I get bored easily...
