Old Doctors, New Annuals...

Here's a selection of new annual covers using the classic Doctors. Each of the covers is based on the design for that year. 

I did this as a belated follow-up to the popular thirteenth Doctor on classic annuals that I did a few years ago. The link to them is here. 

Surprisingly, I haven't received any trolling from the so-called 'NotMyDoctor' faction this time.

A Quick Message...

Hello.

It's me...

Doesn't time fly when you're having a lockdown?

Yes, I know I haven't updated the blog in around three months but there's been a world-wide pandemic and things start playing on the mind of a depressive. I shan't go into details. That's the last thing you want from a blog about faux cult TV merchandise. Needless to say, I'm slowly but surely sorting things out and today is the day I update the blog with all the lovely things that have been my therapy during the break.

It doesn't help my anxiety that Blogger has changed the interface for uploading content. I've now the added task of trying to find the right fonts/colours/layouts to maintain a visual continuity. This irritates me no end. I spent most of last night re-formatting all of my most recent artwork/designs to make them blog-friendly. Today I log onto Blogger and find everything's changed. It still irritates me now as I type this in order to get it off my chest. 

As I think about Blogger's rationale, I come up with the theory that someone at the head office needed something to do during lockdown so spent the past five or so months coming up with a new design for it. They did that. I did Mandrel annuals and Thunderbirds film posters... Each to his own.

I'll start uploading the new stuff later today. Just need to have breakfast and answer some emails (It's Monday and I seem to be popular).

These are the original widescreen versions of the profile pics that I put together for each of the Doctor Whos as featured in the 'Doctors Assemble' video written by James Goss and produced by Emily Cook.

Doctor Who Lockdown cinema posters

It all started when the lovely Emily Cook ( @Emily_Rosina ) sent out a tweet suggesting that, under lockdown conditions, wouldn't it be lovely to have a nationwide tweet-a-long to the first episode of Doctor Who (2005) 'Rose' on its fifteenth anniversary. By all accounts the suggestion snowballed into a worldwide trending event for which Russell T Davies himself appeared on Twitter to join in and even supplied a new ending for the episode. 

The tweet-a-longs are now a regular event. Loads of creatives join in with the fun along with many of the cast, writers and producers. 

I did my bit and added a few retro cinema posters to the melee. A few. I say "a few". I've now done ten - one for each episode. I even threw in a few classic series stories too.

Each of these posters is (sometimes loosely) based on ones for old feature films. I'll tell you which at the bottom of this post but in the meantime, see if you can spot them. Some are pretty obscure...

A Selection from the Supermarkets...

In these times of social distancing and limited supplies in supermarkets, we have to be a little more choosy in the groceries we purchase on that rare occasion we venture into the outer world. 

My rule of life is:

 "If you can't have what you want, then make your own!"

And that is what I have done...
